History and description
Do-rags are often used by people with Afro hair to hold them in place and to stop hair from drying while they sleep. Initially they are most often made of female stockings; this is called a stocking cap, not a do-rags. Now, many are made of polyester. Do-rags re-emerged as an urban fashion trend during the early 2000s, first among African Americans, who used it to maintain their new hairstyles.
Do-rags are worn in various colors, with black and white being the two most common. Do-rags are regularly used to create and maintain wrinkled waves and hairstyles. They usually have on both sides a long bond that wraps around the head to secure the do-rag by tying at the back of the head; old do-rag tied in front of the head.
In April 2001, the American National Football League banned its players from wearing used clothes and bandana under their helmets. The ban does not apply to players who wear it for medical reasons.
Motorists wear clothing, especially in US states with motorcycle helmet laws, to prevent "helmet hair" or "helmet head". There is also the practical value of do-rag preventing sweat and scalp oil (especially if the bald biker) from causing unpleasant-smelling helmets, or wearing a do-rag without a helmet to prevent skin burning. Built slightly different from bonds and tails, they come in different styles and colors.
