Vincent Jamal Staples (born July 2, 1993) is an American rapper from the Ramona Park area in North Long Beach, California. He is a member of the hip hop trio Cutthroat Boyz with fellow California rapper Aston Matthews and Joey Fatts. Staples was a close friend of Odd Future, especially Mike G and Earl Sweatshirt. He is currently signed to Blacksmith Records, ARTium Records, and Def Jam Recordings.

Staples rose to fame with an appearance on the album by members of Odd Future and his collaboration mixtape titled Stolen Youth with Mac Miller, which produced the project. In October 2014, he released his debut EP Hell Can Wait , which included the singles "Hands Up" and "Blue Suede". Her debut album, Summertime '06 , was released on June 30, 2015, for critical acclaim. She also appeared as part of XXL Freshman Class 2015. Her second album Big Fish Theory combines avant-garde, dance, and electronic influences. It was released on June 23, 2017, to get further praise from critics.

Early life and education

Staples was born in Compton, California. He then moved to North Long Beach, California after his mother decided he wanted to move from the Compton area due to high crime rates. Staples is the youngest of five brothers, two brothers and three sisters. Staples grow in poverty.

Staples attended the Optimal Christian Academy from grades 4 to 8, which he found to be an influential and positive experience. During high school, Staples' mother sent him to Atlanta to live with one of his sisters. He went to school for six months. Upon returning to Southern California, Staples attended other high schools: Jordan High School in Long Beach, Mayfair High School at Bellflower, High School Opportunities, Esperanza High School in Anaheim, and Kennedy High School, among others.

Staples has been upfront about his involvement with the gang during his childhood, and is involved with talking to the youth in his community about the dangers of a gang lifestyle.

Careers

2009-2013: Beginning and Stolen Youth

Staples was discovered by Dijon "LaVish" Samo, and Chuck Wun, along with his cousin Campbell Emerson. LaVish took the Staples on a trip to Los Angeles, California, where he befriended the collective members of Odd Future, Syd Tha Kyd, Mike G, and Earl Sweatshirt. Although he was not meant to be a rapper, he made several guest appearances on their songs, especially the "epaR" taken from the debutant mixed album Earl Sweatshirt. After performing in several other songs, he decided to pursue a career in rap. He released his official debut mixtape, called Shyne Coldchain Vol. 1 on December 30, 2011, via applebird.com. In October 2012, he released a mixtape, titled Winter In Prague , which was produced entirely by Michael Uzowuru.

In 2012, Vince reconnects with Earl Sweatshirt, when he returned from Samoa and introduced him to fellow American rapper Mac Miller, who later produced his mixtape Stolen Youth (2013) under the alias name Larry Fisherman. Mixtape features guest appearances from Mac Miller, Ab-Soul, School Q Kids, Da $ H, Hardo, and members of Cutchroat Boyz community, Joey Fatts. Following Stolen Boy ', she toured as a supporting act on the Mac Miller Space Migration Tour. After making three appearances in Earl Sweatshirt's debut studio album Doris, including the single "Hive", liner notes revealed Staples recently signed a contract with hip hop record label Def Jam Recordings.

2014 -2015: Shyne Coldchain Vol. 2 , Hell Can Wait , and Summertime '06

On March 13, 2014, he released his fourth mixtape, called Shyne Coldchain Vol. 2 . Mixtape displays the production of Earl Sweatshirt, Michael Uzowuru, Childish Major, No ID, Evidence, DJ Babu, and Scoop DeVille; as well as guest appearances from singer-songwriters JhenÃÆ' Â © Aiko and James Fauntleroy. On March 2, 2014, Staples began touring in the United States with fellow American rapper Schoolboy Q and Isaiah Rashad at the Oxymoron World Tour to support the release of the Schoolboy Q Oxymoron album.

On August 15, 2014, Staples released a music video for "Blue Suede". Tracks are also available in iTunes. On September 9, 2014, Vince released a new song titled "Hands Up" via iTunes. He released the EP Hell Can Wait on October 7, 2014. Before the release of EP Staples' was revealed during an interview with XXL Magazine that it would include guest appearances from A $ tons Matthews and Teyana Taylor, along with production from No ID , Infamous, and Hagler.

On May 4, 2015, Staples was released as the first single from her debut album, called "SeÃÆ' Â ± orita". He then announced that his debut album will be titled Summertime '06 , released on June 30, 2015. On June 15, Staples released the second single from his debut album, "Get Paid" featuring Desi Mo. On June 22nd, he released his third and final album, "Norf Norf".

2016-present: Prima Donna and Big Fish Theory

On February 23, 2016, Staples was announced as part of the line for the 2016 Osheaga Music Festival. On August 25, 2016, Staples released EP 7-track Prima Donna featuring a guest appearance from A $ AP Rocky and Kilo Kish ; and accompanied by short films. On January 31, 2017, he announced a single, BagBak , to be released on February 3, 2017. BagBak was later featured on the trailer for the Marvel Studios movie Black Panther . On March 23, 2017, he was featured on the Gorillaz track, called "Ascension" from their album, Humanz . In an interview at Zane Lowe's Beats 1, he announced his upcoming album would be called Big Fish Theory and released the accompanying single, "Big Fish", followed by the third single, "Rain Come Down" on dated June 8, 2017, featuring vocals from Ty Dolla Sign. The album was released on June 23, 2017 and was received with widespread critical acclaim. She and rapper Tyler, The Creator announced on November 15, 2017, that they will tour North America from January 26th to March 4th.

In 2018, Staples created a GoFundMe page looking for $ 2 million for early retirement. However, it was quickly lowered and seemed to be a promotion for its upcoming single.

Philanthropy

On 14 June 2016, Staples announced its assistance in the YMCA program that would benefit young people in North Long Beach. The Youth Institute will teach graphic design, 3D printing, product design, music production and filmmaking to 20 eighth and ninth grade students at Hamilton Middle School. Staples donates an undisclosed amount to the program.
