The fishery industry in Palau is very important for the national economy and the main source of livelihood. In 2007, there were three major fishing companies operating on the islands. Fishing in this country does not mean without problems; the industry is facing problems with the migration of fish and hurricanes. The locals are adept at casting, trolling, fishing, underwater fishing, bone fishing and spear fishing, as well as teaching fishing to tourists. Among the fish caught were barracuda, tuna, tarpon, trevally, marlin, wahoo, sailfish, grouper, billfish and snapper.
