The Bourne Legacy is the 2012 American thriller action directed by Tony Gilroy, and is the fourth installment in a series of films adapted from Jason Bourne's novel came from Robert Ludlum and continued by Eric Van Lustbader, preceded by The Bourne Identity (2002), The Bourne Supremacy (2004), and The Bourne Ultimatum i> (2007). Although this movie has the same title as Van Lustbader's first Bourne novel, The Bourne Legacy, the actual scenario is less similar to this novel. Unlike the novel, featuring Jason Bourne as the main character, the film is centered on black ops agent Aaron Cross (played by Jeremy Renner), the original character. In addition to Renner, movie stars Rachel Weisz and Edward Norton.

The titular character Jason Bourne did not appear on Bourne Legacy, as actor Matt Damon chose not to return for the fourth film, because Paul Greengrass did not direct. Bourne is shown in the picture and mentioned his name several times throughout the movie. Tony Gilroy, co-writer of the first three films, attempted to continue the story of the film series without changing his key events, and part of The Bourne Legacy went on at the same time as the previous film. , The Bourne Ultimatum (2007).

In The Bourne Legacy , Aaron Cross is a member of a black operation program called Operation Results whose subjects are genetically upgraded. He had to run for his life after the actions of former CIA Treadstone agent Jason Bourne led to the public exposure of Operation Treadstone and his Operation Blackbriar Replacement.

Filming mainly in New York City, with some filming scenes in the Philippines, South Korea, Pakistan, and Canada. Released on August 10, 2012, the film received mixed reviews, with critics praising the story, James Newton Howard's score, and Renner's appearance, but expressed disappointment in Matt Damon's absence, as well as a shaky lack of camera work (element key from the style of director Greengrass) used by the second and third films. The film was followed in 2016 by Jason Bourne , where Damon and Greengrass reiterated their previous roles.

Plot

Six weeks after Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) escaped from Moscow, Aaron Cross (Jeremy Renner), an operation belonging to the Department of Defense ops program called Operation Outcome, was assigned to Alaska for training. He was forced to survive in extreme weather and across heavy terrain to arrive in the remote cabin as punishment for lost training and leave the network for four days. The cabin is operated by the exiled results operator, Number Three (Oscar Isaac), who tells Aaron that he has broken the two-day mission record. As an Outcome operation, Aaron uses experimental pills known as "chems" (chemicals) that enhance the physical and mental abilities of their users.

Reporter Simon Ross (Paddy Considine) of The Guardian , who has investigated the CIA program Treadstone and Blackbriar, was killed at London Waterloo Station (a scene from the previous film). When the illegal adaptation of the program was exposed by Bourne, the FBI and Senate Select Intelligence Committee investigated CIA Director Ezra Kramer (Scott Glenn), Deputy Director Pamela Landy (Joan Allen), Blackbriar Noah Vosen (David Strathairn), and Dr. Treadstone Albert Hirsch (Albert Finney).

Eight months after the chaos in New York City and Bourne escaped, Kramer sought help from Mark Turso (Stacy Keach), a retired US Navy admiral, who runs the National Research Assay Group (NRAG). Turso told Eric Byer (Edward Norton), a retired Air Force colonel who oversaw NRAG research and development of various secret improvement programs used by the CIA and Defense. Byer invented a potentially embarrassing video on the Internet that showed Hirsch socializing with Dr. And Hillcott (Neil Brooks Cunningham), medical director of Outcome. To prevent a Senate inquiry from learning about Outcome, Byer ordered everyone associated with the program to be killed. He saw the sacrifice was acceptable to protect the NRAG generation "beta" program, including the LARX supersoldier program.

Byer deploys drones to eliminate Outcome Number Three and Five (Aaron) agents in Alaska. Aaron hears the drone approach and leaves moments before a missile destroys the cabin with Number Three inside. Aaron removes the radio frequency identification implanted on his thigh and forces him into a wolf later detonated by a missile, tricking Byer into believing Aaron is dead. Hirsch died of a real heart attack before he could testify before the Senate. At Sterisyn-Morlanta, a biogenetic company that supports Outcome, a researcher. Donald Foite (? Eljko Ivanek) shot and killed all but one of his colleagues in a research laboratory. The security guard broke into the laboratory and shot him, although he did not seem to feel the pain of the gunshot. Foite altered his weapon on himself, leaving biochemist Dr. Marta Shearing (Rachel Weisz) as the only survivor. Meanwhile, other Outcome agents were removed when their handler gave them poisonous poison pills disguised as new chems.

Four killers "D-Track" disguised as a federal agent visiting Marta at his country home. After he expressed his belief that Foite had been chemically brainwashed into an emotionless killer, the assassins tried to fake a suicide, but were killed by Aaron. He saved his life because he was his last link to the chems so he could maintain his enhanced ability and avoid withdrawal symptoms. Marta reveals that Cross has been genetically modified by viruses tailored to maintain physical benefits without the need for green chems anymore. He still needs a regular dose of blue chems to keep his intelligence, but he's almost gone. Aaron confessed to him that he was the First Class Person of Kenneth J. Kitsom (reportedly killed by a roadside bomb in the Iraq War) and that his recruiter added twelve points to his IQ, allowing Aaron to meet the requirements of the US Army. Without his increased intelligence, Aaron believes they have no chance of survival. Aaron and Marta traveled to Manila, where the stones were made, to try to infect him with another virus so he did not need the blue stone.

Aaron and Marta barged into the Morlanta Pacific pharmaceutical factory where the chems program was produced, and Marta injected Aaron with live virus sticks. Byer warns of factory safety, but Aaron and Marta avoid arrest. Byer ordered LARX-03, a super-brainwashed army chemically, to track and kill them. When Aaron recovered from flu-like symptoms caused by a virus, he hallucinated on the Outcome training. When the police surrounded their shelter while Marta bought the medicine, she warned Aaron by shouting. Aaron saved him and stole a motorcycle. They were chased by police and LARX-03. After a long chase through the streets and markets of Manila to Marikina, they lost the police, but not the assassins. Both Aaron and LARX-03 were injured by bullets, although the LARX-03 was not completely disturbed by injuries due to the pain suppression caused by brainwashing. When Aaron starts to lose consciousness, LARX-03 is killed when Marta causes her motorcycle to hit a pillar. Marta persuaded a Filipino boatman to help them escape by sea.

Back in New York, Vosen lied to the Senate, stating that Blackbriar was created solely to trace Jason Bourne, and that Landy did betrayal by helping Bourne and trying to sell Treadstone secrets to the press.

Production

Universal Pictures was originally intended to be The Bourne Ultimatum to be the last film in the series, but another movie development was in progress in October 2008. George Nolfi, who co-wrote The Bourne Ultimatum is writing the script the fourth film, not by Robert Ludlum's novel. Joshua Zetumer has been hired to write a parallel script - a concept that can be combined with others (Nolfi, for that matter) - in August 2009 because Nolfi will direct the The Adjustment Bureau in September. Matt Damon declared in November 2009 that no script was approved and he hoped that a movie would begin filming in mid-2011. The following month he said he would not do another Bourne movie without Paul Greengrass, who announced in late November that he has decided not to return as a director. In January 2010, Damon said that there would be "the possibility of being prequel of some kind with other actors and other directors before we do the others just because I think we may be five years away from doing it."

However, it was reported in June 2010 that Tony Gilroy, who co-wrote each of the three previous Bourne films, will write a script with his brother, screenwriter Dan Gilroy, for the fourth i> the movie to be released sometime in 2012. That October, Universal set the release date for The Bourne Legacy for August 10, 2012, Tony Gilroy confirmed as a movie director, and also announced that Jason Bourne will not appear in The Bourne Legacy .

Gilroy says he's not involved with the project "until the rule is that Matt [Damon] has gone, Matt and Paul [Greenglass] are gone, there's no Jason Bourne. That's what was given when I did the first conversation about this.So that's very important to me, it's important for me, that everything that has happened before has to be well preserved and enhanced if possible with what we are doing now. "He also said," You can never replace Matt [Damon] as Jason Bourne. This is not James Bond You can not do the prequel You can not do such things, because there is never any cynicism attached to the franchise, and that is one thing they must rely on. "

Gilroy "never had any intention of returning to this world at all - let alone write it, let alone direct it.Then I started a really relaxed conversation about what we could do in the post-Jason Bourne setting.I'm just supposed to come for two weeks, but the character we made, Aaron Cross, is very enthralling. "After watching The Bourne Ultimatum again, Gilroy called his brother, screenwriter Dan Gilroy, and said, " 'The only thing you can do is pull back the curtains and say there's a much bigger conspiracy.'So we had to deal with what happened at Ultimatum as the starting point of this movie. Ultimatum play in the shadow of Legacy for the first 15 minutes - they overlap. "

In talking about the film's storyline, Gilroy drew the distinction between a fictional program in the Bourne movie series:

At a practical level, the Treadstone program is about murder. They are basically murderers. They live in the world - you can see Clive Owen [on The Bourne Identity] as a piano teacher, they have covers - but basically they are assassins. Nothing will be described as espionage, [they] are basically a killer team. The Aaron Outcome Program [played by Jeremy Renner] is part of, [Oscar Isaac's character] is one of them as well... His pride is that [Edward Norton's character] is the mastermind of the entire franchise. We stepped back a bit here, he is a developer, he is at the center of the military community and corporate intelligence. There is a very large corporate element, an element of pharmaceutical company...

Although most of the films were made in and around Washington, DC, the real DC only appeared in aerial shots. Most of the films were taken for 12 weeks at Kaufman Astoria Studios in Queens, New York, including all the DC interior scenes. The old house in Hudson, New York, used as a Shearing home was not able to accommodate the weight of equipment and crew, so it was only used for exterior shooting, and all the interior scenes were filmed on Kaufman Astoria sound stage. The scene that was installed in the "SteriPacific" factory in Manila was actually filmed at the New York Times printing plant in Queens.

Some scenes were shot abroad, mostly in Manila and in the bay of Paradise El Nido, Palawan, in the Philippines. Some train scenes at Garak Market Station in Seoul Subway Line 3 and nearby Seocho-daero 77-Gil (1308 Seocho 4-dong), Seocho-gu, and Gangnam-gu, Seoul, South Korea, are used in several scenes. Alberta Canada's Kananaskis Country, used for scenes arranged in Alaska.

Gilroy said, "there are three deleted scenes - we just mix it and the color corrects it [...] but I like the three scenes that happen in the movie One of them is called and they are completely legitimate part of our story, they really happened in our movie, we just do not have the time to show it to you so there is nothing from the side.I think they will be on DVD straight away. "

The film portrays Cross and Shearing as an endless journey from New York's JFK Airport to Manila on American Airlines Boeing 747-400. The special 747 model was introduced in 1989; American Airlines never flies one; American Airlines has never served Manila as a destination; no commercial airline ever flies from JFK to Manila non-stop with passenger services; the distance between the two cities exceeds the maximum range of any model 747. Despite this scarcity, American Airlines is actively involved in film production in collaboration with NBCUniversal, and donates its own airline employees and Boeing 777-200 to interior terminals and cabin shots at Terminal 8 Airport International JFK. The airline also highly markets this film during postproduction.

"Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times gave the film 2½ stars from 4, writes:" The Bourne Legacy is always gripping right now.The problem is in getting a few moments to add.I freely admit that for at least the first 30 minutes I have no clear idea of why something happened.the dialogue is short, the cinematography catches and the plot is messy. "

Peter Debruge of Variety writes that "a combination of elegant big-screen shots from Robert Elswit and edits measured by Tony Gilroy's brother John may be more readily absorbed than the Greengrass-based docu hyperkinetic style, but the small, that aud will appear no less overwhelmed. "Michael Atkinson from The Village Voice also wrote a scathing commentary from the film, saying:" The Bourne film has more than just an overstay to welcome them and outperform Ludlum's book - they're already Van Halenized, with a sudden change of frontman and causing a decline in personality. "

Kenneth Turan from the Los Angeles Times gave this film a positive review, calling the film "an exemplary espionage thriller who has a strong sense of what to expect and how best to get there." He especially praised Gilroy's work in the film: "Gilroy knows the basics of this world outside and appreciates how important it is to maintain and extend the cool and credible style of home intelligence that marks the previous films."
