Lyrics
There is confusion and debate about the phrase "Are we human, or are we dancers?" in the chorus of a song because of its grammar. The debate rages on the Internet about whether the lyrics say "dancers", "dancers" or "more dense", a misunderstanding that elicits conflicting interpretations of the meaning of the song. On the band's official website, the biography section states that Flowers is singing "Are we humans, or are we dancers?" and also said that the lyrics are inspired by the disparaging comments made by Hunter S. Thompson, which states that America "raises the generation of dancers". From interview:
Flowers are annoyed that people do not seem to get the lyrics, and that fans are not happy with the song's dance beats. "It's supposed to be a dance song, it goes with a choir," he said. "If you can not put it together, you're an idiot, I just do not understand why there is confusion about it."
By 2014, it was voted "the weirdest lyrics of all time" by the Blinkbox survey.

Music video
The music video for "Humans" was released in mid-October 2008 and directed by Danny Drysdale. It features bands performing songs at Goblin Valley State Park, Utah. Portraits of the bands taken for the album by Paul Normansell are featured in the video, as when band members hold portraits in front of their faces. Various animals are also displayed throughout the video, such as white tiger, eagle, and cougar. It has been noted to have great similarities with the Pink Floyd's live concert film at Pompeii, as the band plays songs in the desert landscape among the various amplifiers and other stage equipment and mostly on many camera angles. The video ended with the band watching the sun setting in the desert, which turned into an album cover, also drawn by Paul Normansell.
