YouTube Rewind is a series of videos created and created by YouTube and Portal A Interactive. These videos are an overview and recap of viral videos, events, memes, and music every year. The First Rewind was created by YouTube in 2010 and featured a list of the top 50 most popular YouTube videos for the year. In 2010, YouTube began creating and producing videos Rewind with the help of Seedwell and Portal A Interactive. Starting 2011 and beyond, the video YouTube Rewind is only uploaded to the YouTube Spotlight channel, with additional content "behind the scenes".

2010-2011

On December 13, 2010, the first YouTube Rewind was uploaded, titled "2010 Rewind YouTube: Year under Review". It featured the 10 most popular videos on YouTube for the previous year. It's uploaded on two channels: YouTube Trends on the first day, and YouTube Spotlight on the second day.

On December 20, 2011, "YouTube Rewind 2011" was uploaded. It was created and produced by YouTube and Portal A Intercreated, and featured Rebecca Black as the host. Friday's music video has been a viral video in March 2011. As of last year, it featured the top 10 most popular videos on YouTube for this year. Due to Black's appearance, and since her video reached number one on the list, the video received more dislike than likes.

2012-present

In 2012, YouTube's Rewind videos were changed to feature some of the popular YouTubers; the most popular music, videos, mashups and videos; latest news; and internet meme from this year. In 2013, the Rewind/logo button is created.

On December 17, 2012, "Replay Style YouTube 2012", referring to Gangnam Style, uploaded to YouTube Spotlight. It's created and produced by YouTube and Seedwill.

On December 11, 2013, "YouTube Rewind: What is 2013 Say?", Referring to What to Say ?, uploaded to YouTube Spotlight. It's created and produced by YouTube and Portal A Interactive. This is the first year the YouTube Rewind Button is used; if not, it's very similar to the style for video 2012. DJ Earworm produces six songs from this year. Jimmy Fallon and The Roots from The Tonight Show , making guest appearances.

On December 9, 2014, "YouTube Rewind: Turn Down for 2014", referring to Turn Down for What, uploaded to YouTube Spotlight. It was again created and produced by YouTube and Portal A Interactive. More than 10 songs smoothed together by DJ Earworm for video. The video was unstructured around the song, as in previous years. More internet memes and trends are used with music. Its main feature is the Rewind YouTube Button flag, which the YouTubers and characters used from the beginning of the video to the end. The flag is run through The Colbert Report set by Big Bird; Conan by Conan O'Brien, running alone with Freddie Wong who acted as host and Last Night's Night with John Oliver, by Kid President. Play Button is not actually displayed until the end of the video.

On December 9, 2015, "YouTube Rewind: Now Watch Me 2015", which refers to Watch Me, uploaded to the YouTube Spotlight channel. It was again created and produced by YouTube and Portal A Interactive. It was the first to display a hashtag; #YouTubeRewind. This video includes many of the previous years from YouTube because 2015 is the 10th anniversary of the website. Music mashups are composed by The Hood Internet. In addition, Avicii compiled the original remix for the video. This video shows more gamers than in previous years, like the personality of YouTube Markiplier. It's set to resemble Five Nights at Freddy's , an indie horror game, survival, point-and-click that has gained recognition since it was first launched in August 2014. Rewind buttons and logos are displayed throughout the video. Its main appearances are with PewDiePie and Zoe Sugg around mid-video. They appear next to the scoreboard with two December 9, 2015. Zoe changed one scoreboard date back to February 14, 2005, leaving the other on December 9, 2015. After that Felix "brofist" button backed off, triggered a video to show viral videos and memes from 2015 back to 2005. After the credits, Good Brothers is shown arguing about whether PewDiePie is in the video.

On December 7, 2016, "YouTube Rewind: The Ultimate 2016 Challenge", which refers to an increasing number of challenges that occurred in 2016, was uploaded to the YouTube Spotlight channel. It was again created and produced by YouTube and Portal A Interactive. Music was developed by The Hood Internet with original remix by Major Lazer. The video begins with Dwayne Johnson featuring a miniature Rewind button, and a YouTube personality hunting the 'Rewind' symbol in Pokémon mon Go style. This video also refers to objects destroyed by the Hydraulic press, Hodor of the Game of Thrones and dance movements of dabbing. This video ended James Corden and other figures in the car, referring to the Carpool Karaoke segment of The Late Late Show.

On December 6, 2017, "Youtube Rewind: The Shape of 2017", which refers to the song Shape of You by Ed Sheeran, was uploaded to the YouTube Spotlight channel. Appearance entered by big names in the YouTube community (see chart below). The solar eclipse of August 21, 2017 is referenced several times during video playback. This is also the most disliked YouTube Rewind for the moment, and many YouTubers post the video in surprise that PewDiePie does not exist.

Upon release, the video was greeted with reactions, with criticisms aimed at excessive use of memes, the entry of Paul's brothers, many unrecognized YouTubers, and PewDiePie's exceptions to controversial practices earlier in the year. To date, it has received 1.88 million dislikes, making it the 13th most disliked YouTube video of all time.
