Marylebone Road ( Ã, ( listen ) "English respelling pronunciation"> MAR -li-b? n ) is an important street in central London, within Westminster City. It runs east-west from Euston Road at Regent's Park to A40 Westway in Paddington. The road that runs on 3 lanes in both directions, is part of the London Inner Ring Road and as a form like part of the boundary zone where London congestion charges apply.
As part of the Ring Road and feeder routes to the A40 (and hence the M40 motorway) (to the west) and the A5 and M1 highways (to the north) a lot of traffic leaving central London for the Midlands and North of England travel on this road. It's often very crowded.

History
The road effectively passed the first bypass of London. New Road construction, as it is called, began in 1756 along the northern edge of the built area. In 1857, the name of the road was changed from New Road, with parts, west to east, renamed Marylebone Road, Euston Road, and Pentonville Road.
The name Marylebone comes from a church, called "St. Marys", built on the edge of a small river or "bourne" called tybourne, in an area named after the Tyburn stream. The church and the surrounding area came to be known as St Mary at bourne, which from time to time became shorter into its present form Marylebone. St. John's Church Marylebone Parish is currently south of Marylebone Road, opposite the Royal Academy of Music and at the top of Marylebone High Street.

One of London's main sights is located on Marylebone Road - Madame Tussauds. It is also the location of the Royal Academy of Music and the former "Great Central Hotel", now renamed The Landmark London.
