Biography

As a teenager, Ian Gardiner is surrounded by creativity. Neil Young, Burton Cummings, Lenny Breau, and Randy Bachman all started there at that time in his hometown. The Winnipeg writer and rock historian John Einarson say, "The limitations of Winnipeg allow a strong local scene and are eager to grow and flourish."

Regarding those days in the mid-1960s, Gardiner recalled, "Winnipeg, at the time, had the best music in Canada, so far Every neighborhood has a community club, consisting of a hockey rink, or two, and a hall with a stage in where the dance is held Friday, Saturday and sometimes on Sunday night.that time, no drinks or drugs. The main thing is to just see all the bands. "One band he will see is The Deverons, the band Burton Cummings, which Gardiner will play when Cummings goes solo.

In 1965, surrounded by exciting music scene in Winnipeg and after seeing The Beatles at Ed Sullivan, the thirteen year old Gardiner joined his first band: Ragnar and the Pagans. Soon, he and his best friend Glen Hall started listening to more eclectic music, Frank Zappa and jazz. At about seventeen, Gardiner began playing with Winnipeg jazz players: Al Thumbler in a Winnipeg pub called Big "A"; jazz drummer Bill Graham at The Old Bailey Lounge, and with jazz guitarist Lenny Breau in the Ting Tea Room.

1972 to 1974, Gardiner played bass in the band for the Manitoba Theater Center Productions of Jaques Brel Living and Good and Living in Paris and Jubalay .

In the mid to late 1970s, Gardiner joined the Winnipeg band, Mood Jga Jga. In 1976, he started playing bass with Burton Cummings, after Cummings left The Guess Who. 1978, Gardiner played with Cummings in "Dream of Child," which later won Juno awards for this year's record, and was the first triple platinum album for Canadian artists.

1980, Gardiner co-wrote the song "Fine State of Affairs" with Cummings, who later won the SOCAN Award. Another song written by Gardiner with Cummings, "Love Dream," won the SOCAN Award in 1986.

1987, Gardiner co-produced Bo Diddley's "Surfer's Love Chant" for John Cusack and Tim Robbins with The King Cotton as co-producer of The Bonedaddys. With Peter Buck R.E.M, Gardiner co-produced The Moberlys. 1996, he produced and engineered former Go-Go guitarist Kathy Valentine and bassist Dominique Davalos band The Delphines in the living room of his Topanga Canyon home, along with The Knack's Bruce Gary as a co-producer.

While he was still playing bass, since 1996 Ian Gardiner designed and produced professional audio equipment and console recording in two businesses: Boutique Audio & amp; Design and Audio Tree, which he runs with his business partner Steve Firlotte from Inward Connections.
