Dress shoes are short leather boots worn by men. Built like a shoe, but with the top covering the ankle, the boots version is used as an alternative to this in bad weather or outer rough situations, and as a traditional choice for formal daytime attire.

History

Until the end of the Victorian period, men do not wear shoes (provided for women), prefer only boots during daylight and court sandals (pumps) when nightwear is worn. At that time, common long boots and boots are for more formal occasions, so patent leather is often used, as well as regular black calves.
